Shaftless Screw Conveyor

A shaftless screw conveyor for filter presses is a device specifically designed for handling and conveying sludge cake after filter press discharge. It is widely used in sludge dewatering systems and environmental treatment systems, and is particularly suitable for conveying materials with high moisture content, entanglement, or strong adhesion.

What is a Shaftless Spiral Conveyor for Filter Presses?

This conveying device is specifically designed for filter press sludge. Its core feature is its lack of a central shaft, ensuring smoother and more stable conveying. Traditional spiral conveyors have a central shaft, which can easily cause entanglement and blockage. The shaftless design eliminates this problem and is particularly suitable for conveying high-humidity and sticky filter cakes.

Equipment Components of Shaftless Screw Conveyor

A shaftless screw conveyor primarily consists of the following components:

  • Drive (motor + reducer): Provides power.
  • Screw blades (shaftless design): Rotate to propel the material forward.
  • Bushing or wear-resistant lining: Reduces friction and extends service life.
  • Trough/housing: Typically a U-shaped or tubular structure, it provides excellent sealing to prevent sludge leakage.

Working Principle of Shaftless Spiral Conveyor

The filter press discharges the mud cake directly into the conveyor’s feed port. Driven by a motor, the spiral blades continuously propel the mud cake along the trough, ultimately delivering it to a designated location (such as a bucket elevator, mud storage silo, or transport vehicle).

Key Features

  1. Advantages:
Resistant to clogging: The center shaft-less design prevents material entanglement and is suitable for fibrous and flocculent materials.
  2. Conveying viscous materials: Particularly suitable for conveying wet filter cakes produced by filter presses.
  3. Easy Maintenance: The simple structure allows for easy cleaning, reducing the maintenance challenges of the center shaft.
  4. Flexible conveying distance: Customizable lengths can be tailored to meet site requirements.

Disadvantages:

  1. Limited conveying distance: Long conveying distances can cause deformation and distortion of the spiral blades, and power loss increases significantly with distance.
  2. Severe wear and tear: The spiral blades directly contact and rub against the trough, and without a central shaft for support, the blades are more susceptible to deformation and damage.
  3. Limited conveying capacity: The conveying capacity is lower than that of shafted screw conveyors, making it unsuitable for large-volume, high-intensity conveying needs.

How to Choose a Model?

When selecting a shaftless screw conveyor for a filter press, consider the following parameters:

  • Capacity: Typically measured in tons per hour (t/h).
  • Conveying distance: Horizontal or vertical, which affects power and specifications.
  • Conveying angle: Horizontal, inclined, or vertical installation.
  • Material requirements: Stainless steel or carbon steel, depending on corrosion resistance.
  • Screw diameter and speed: They directly affect conveying efficiency and energy consumption.
