Gasketed Filter Press
A gasketed filter press is a type of filtration equipment featuring a specially designed filter plate structure. The filter plates are surrounded by annular grooves into which the edges of the filter cloth fit. When compressed, the filter cloth and filter plates form a continuous sealing surface, significantly improving the sealing performance of the filtration process and effectively preventing material leakage.
This structure is widely used in industries requiring high sealing, cleanliness, and safety, such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, metallurgy, and environmental protection. The following is a detailed introduction to gasketed filter presses.
Gasketed Filter Press Structure
Filter plate
Material: Polypropylene (PP), reinforced polypropylene, stainless steel, etc.
Features: The filter plate is surrounded by precision-machined grooves with smooth inner surfaces. These grooves, when tightened, ensure a high seal when combined with the sealing ring or filter cloth frame.
Filter cloth
Specialized in-line filter cloth with thickened edges or clips for secure insertion into the grooves. Filter cloth materials are selected based on the operating conditions, including polyester, polypropylene, nylon, and polypropylene.
Compressing mechanism
A hydraulic, mechanical, or electric clamping system provides a stable and uniform clamping force.
Thrust plate and clamping plate
The thrust plate is fixed to one end of the frame. The clamping plate is pushed by a hydraulic cylinder to clamp the filter plate pack.
Frame and guide beam
Carry the filter plates, guide the clamping plate’s movement, and support the entire machine’s weight.
Working Principle
- Feed
The slurry enters the filter chamber through the feed port. The liquid is forced through the filter cloth under pressure, while solids are trapped on the surface of the cloth, forming a filter cake. - Filtration
The seal between the embedded filter cloth and the filter plate grooves prevents slurry leakage between the plates, improving filtration efficiency and product purity. - Washing and drying
The filter cake can be washed to remove residual impurities, then dried with compressed air to improve the cake’s consistency. - Filter cake unloading
Release the pressure plate, allowing the filter plates to separate one by one. The filter cake falls under the gravity or the cake unloading device. - Reset
The filter plates are re-pressed, and the next filtration cycle begins.
Unique Advantages of Gasketed Filter Press
Excellent Sealing Performance
Gasketed construction: The edge of the filter cloth fits into the grooves of the filter plate, forming a continuous seal when pressed tightly.
The gasketed design virtually eliminates slurry leakage and is particularly suitable for applications involving toxic, corrosive, or high-purity environments.
Higher filtration quality
The filter cloth is fixed in place after insertion, preventing it from shifting during high pressure or prolonged operation. This results in clearer filtrate and more stable solid-liquid separation. Product purity and liquid clarity are significantly improved.
Longer filter cloth life
The edges of the gasketed filter cloth are protected by grooves, preventing them from being directly exposed to the slurry. This significantly reduces edge wear and tear, extending the service life and reducing the frequency and cost of filter cloth replacement.
Safer and more environmentally friendly
The enclosed environment effectively prevents the leakage of toxic, odorous, or volatile media, reducing the risk of operator exposure to hazardous materials. This system is particularly suitable for industries with stringent safety and hygiene requirements, such as pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, food, and environmental protection.
Filter Press Applications
