Vertical Leaf Filter

The vertical leaf filter is a type of enclosed solid-liquid separation equipment. Its core operating principle uses pressure to force the liquid through vertically mounted filter leaves within a sealed vessel; solid particles are retained on the leaf surfaces to form a filter cake, while the clarified liquid is discharged through internal channels within the leaves.

Vertical Leaf Filter

Structure of the Vertical Leaf Filter

The interior of the equipment features multiple vertically installed filter leaves. During filtration, solid particles gradually accumulate on the leaf surfaces to form a filter cake, while the clarified filtrate enters the leaves and is discharged through a collection channel. Upon completion of filtration, a vibration mechanism dislodges the filter cake from the leaf surfaces, allowing it to be discharged from the bottom of the unit, thereby concluding a full filtration cycle.

The filter leaves are primarily composed of five layers of stainless steel mesh: the two outermost layers are made of 316 stainless steel, while the three inner layers are made of 304 stainless steel. The mesh becomes progressively finer from the outside in, enabling superior retention of solid particles.

Working Principle of the Vertical Leaf Filter

The feed material enters the filter vessel via a feed pump; under pressure, solids are gradually retained on the surfaces of the filter leaves, while the filtrate passes into the interior of the leaves and exits through the collection manifold. As filtration proceeds, the filter cake thickens, necessitating residue discharge. Air is introduced through the overflow port to blow back residual material and dry the filter cake. Finally, the vibration mechanism is activated to discharge the cake.

Filtration process

  • The liquid to be filtered enters the feed tank or mixing tank, where filter aid is added according to process requirements.
  • The liquid circulates between the filter unit and the mixing tank, ensuring the filter aid is evenly deposited onto the surfaces of the filter leaves.
  • The feed pump continuously delivers the material to the filter unit, achieving solid-liquid separation under pressure.
  • After passing through the filter leaves, the liquid enters the internal collection channels and is discharged through the outlet.
  • Once filtration is complete, the feed is stopped; compressed air can be used to further expel residual liquid from the equipment and reduce the liquid content of the filter cake.
  • The vibration mechanism is activated to dislodge the filter cake from the filter leaves, allowing it to be discharged through the bottom discharge port.

Product Features

Fully enclosed filtration

The filtration process takes place within a sealed vessel, minimizing liquid leakage and preventing material contact with the external environment during operation; this makes it ideal for applications requiring strict control over the production environment and material recovery.

Large-area leaf filtration

Multiple vertical filter leaves are arranged inside the unit, creating a large effective filtration area within a compact vessel and enhancing filtration capacity relative to the equipment’s volume.

Filter cake-assisted filtration

As solid particles gradually accumulate on the surface of the filter leaves, a stable filter cake layer forms. This cake not only traps solids but also further enhances the liquid filtration performance.

Compatibility with filter aids

For materials containing fine particles or requiring high filtration precision, an appropriate amount of filter aid can be added to form a uniform pre-coat on the filter leaves, thereby improving filtration stability.

Automatic vibratory slag discharge

Upon completion of filtration, a vibration mechanism dislodges the filter cake adhering to the filter leaves, allowing it to be discharged from the bottom of the unit and thereby reducing the manual labor required for cleaning the leaves.

Stainless steel filter leaves

The filter leaves feature a multi-layer stainless steel mesh structure, ensuring compliance with food-grade standards.

Equipment Maintenance and Care

  1. Before the start of each shift, check the quick-release bolts on the main filtration unit for looseness; tighten any loose bolts to ensure a proper seal between the lid and the main body. Also, check the lubricant level in the mixing tank’s agitator gearbox and replenish it as necessary.
  2. If a filter screen is accidentally damaged during cleaning, it can be repaired using silver solder and returned to service.
  3. After each cleaning of the filter screens, inspect the sealing rings at the bottom of the screens; replace them promptly if any damage is found.
  4. For filtration units equipped with vibrators, an oil mist lubricator is provided; clean and refill this lubricator monthly to ensure proper lubrication and operation of the vibrator.
  5. If the unit is to be shut down for an extended period, clean the entire machine to prevent material spoilage, which could corrode internal components. Pay special attention to the filter screens: clean them thoroughly and hang them in a dry place.
