In the production of yacon juice, pulp, and other processed products, solid-liquid separation is often required after crushing or pressing to remove fruit fibers and some solid impurities, resulting in a more stable liquid product. Challenges in Dehydrating Yacon Puree
The puree has a certain viscosity
As filtration proceeds, solid particles continuously form a filter cake on the filter cloth surface, gradually increasing filtration resistance. If the feed pressure is insufficient, the filtration speed will decrease significantly in the later stages.
Pulp and fibers easily form a dense filter cake
The fine fibers in yacon gradually accumulate and form a filter cake. Therefore, in addition to normal filtration, secondary pressing through a diaphragm can further squeeze out the residual liquid inside the filter cake.
Adaptability to actual temperature
Some materials used in fruit and vegetable processing are not introduced into the filter press at room temperature. If the feed liquid temperature is high, ordinary filter plates may not be able to be used stably for a long time. Therefore, it is necessary to select appropriate high-temperature filter plates based on the actual feed temperature.
French Client Project: 30㎡ Food-Grade Stainless Steel Diaphragm Filter Press
Based on our French client’s yacon puree filtration process, we configured a 30㎡ diaphragm filter press for this project. After the initial filtration, the diaphragm further compresses the yacon filter cake, helping to remove residual liquid from the cake and thus improving overall solid-liquid separation efficiency.
Considering the equipment’s application in food processing, components related to the materials are designed with food-grade stainless steel. This helps maintain good hygiene and facilitates cleaning after production.
Meanwhile, based on the material temperature in the actual yacon processing technology of our French customer, we made targeted adjustments to the filter plate configuration, using high-temperature filter plates suitable for their operating temperature, so that the equipment can more stably adapt to actual production conditions.
Why Use a Diaphragm Filter Press?
For food materials like yacon puree, which have a certain viscosity and fiber content, this project uses a diaphragm filter press instead of a conventional chamber filter press.
During the feeding stage, the yacon puree enters each filter chamber via a feed pump. The liquid passes through the filter cloth and is discharged, while solids such as pulp and fiber are retained within the filter chamber, gradually forming a filter cake.
After the feed filtration is largely complete, the diaphragm filter plate can undergo secondary pressing.
For economically valuable fruit juices, extracts, or food ingredients, maximizing liquid recovery is particularly important. Therefore, diaphragm pressing not only aims to obtain a drier filter cake but also helps reduce the loss of usable material with the filter cake.
Advantages of Food-Grade Stainless Steel Filter Press
Since snow lotus fruit puree is a food ingredient, the equipment not only needs to perform solid-liquid separation but also needs to consider hygiene and cleanliness. Using a food-grade stainless steel structure provides better corrosion resistance and easier cleaning in areas that come into contact with the material.
Especially for materials like fruit puree and juice, which contain a lot of sugar and organic matter, prolonged residue on the equipment surface can easily affect hygiene. Therefore, thoroughly cleaning the feed channel, filter cloth, and related contact areas after each production cycle is an important part of the daily use of the food filter press.
